I took some night photos of stars over some reeds. All photos taken with 30s exposure, maximum aperture, on a tripod. ISO was varied (200 - 1000) to adjust brightness. In some pictures it appears that stars are shining through the reeds ...

This one captures the big dipper asterism/constellation over some reeds |

You can see the stars "through" the reeds most clearly in this picture. I suspect this is because when the reed sways in the wind, it allows some starlight to reach the camera; the star is so bright compared to the light reflected from the reed that the star dominates the pixels, making the reeds look transparent.

A brighter image (higher ISO). Moon-shadows visible on the road and fence. |

Looking up to see more stars |

A less bright image, the reeds are blurrier b/c it was windier during this photo |

Self portrait in the moonlight. The first image has been brightened, second is the original. 2.5 s exposure b/c I couldn't hold still for 30s. |
